Update 11/6/09
Flush off of the upset Democratic victory in NY-23, which he had a big hand in, Rep. Steve Israel (D-N.Y.), who is Jewish, is demanding that Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) apologize for sponsoring Thursday’s anti-health care reform rally, which brought to the hill signs comparing health reform to the Holocaust.
“I just cannot believe that Congresswoman Bachmann sponsored and brought to the American people, the use of images from the Holocaust, actual photographs of skeletal remains of people from the cremetoria, in order to make a point about the health insurance bill,” says Israel. “I can’t believe that Congresswoman Bachmann would stand where she stood and see those images and not have the common decency to say, ‘I disagree with the use of those images.’”

I should have just called this The Fools on the Hill

...via Matthew Yglesias, this image of Holocaust victims was on display at today's "House Call" protest organized by Michele Bachmann and the Republican House Leadership:

Take a closer look:

Keep in mind that this wasn't some Glenn Beck-organized 9/12 stunt. This was an event staged by the House Republican leadership -- actual elected officials, members of the U.S. government.
Other Republican members of Congress were on stage, too: Minority Leader John Boehner (OH), Minority Whip Eric Cantor (VA), Roy Blunt (MO), Jeb Hensarling (TX), Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA), Michele Bachmann (MN) -- who was a key organizer of the event -- Virginia Foxx (NC), Ginny Brown-Waite (FL), Jean Schmidt (OH), Sue Myrick (NC), and many more.
If Republicans wonder why most Americans view them as part of the fringe extreme, they need not look beyond this event. While Democrats were touting the endorsement of AARP, Michele Bachmann and the House leadership were rallying amidst signs like this, shoulder to shoulder with 2,000 teabaggers.

And they couldn't get the Pledge of Allegiance right:
And of course "a few" brought their offensive signs:

WTF is wrong with people?
1They are idiot Snarky. Crazy idiots.
2idiot=idiots
3I'm afraid calling them idiots is letting them off too easy. Some are morons, but some know exactly what they are doing and are keeping the rabble roused on purpose.
4Ohh my, I just don't know what to say.
5ok, so how exactly does having a public option for healthcare equate to the Holocaust? The fact that someone would use this imagery for something like this is seriously freaking me out and upsetting me! Does anyone understand the thought process behind this?? If so, could you explain it to me?
6public healthcare = socialism
socialism = nazism
at least that how it goes in crazytown.
7Public healthcare also equals death. Hence the despicable picture of piled up bodies.
8Wow, Snarky and Roar, that logic is quite.....well, I really don't have a word for it.
thanks for explaining.
9I think disgusting is the word you're looking for Martini...
10yes, Sarah, disgusting does describe it well!
11"If Republicans wonder why most Americans view them as part of the fringe extreme, they need not look beyond this event."
I agree with this statement.
12And the man holding that sign in the LAST photo surely expresses his low intelligence even further. He said proudly....
"I listen to Fox news"
Oh dear
13i guess g-d hates liberals.
14I just now got a chance to watch that video.
These people couldn't get the Pledge of Allegiance right as a whole group either. They can't do much right at all in my opinion.
They need to take a serious break away from presenting themselves within the media.
15The use of this imagery is unforgivable. Shame on them all.
16I'm gonna set my cuckoo clock to 12 and have a glass of wine.
I'm not Jewish and I'm offended. I've been waiting for the Jewish community to speak up and say WTF! But so far no cry.
17i agree hypno, but the jewish community often (surprisingly) gets backlash for using the "holocaust card".
it's really sad, but there are many people out there who think that jews exploit the holocaust to get what they want. these people claim that there are so many other horrible things in the world, but yet we still talk about the holocaust, and that more than just jews died in the holocaust but we don't care about them bc they were not jewish. i've seen this kind of ridiculous racism more and more in the last few years. (probably coinciding with the proliferation of blogs, especially those with anon comments).
i have no idea if that's why the jewish community is not reacting, of if they're just using the "if we ignore it, it'll go away" tactic.
